Section 1: Ebenezer | God has been faithful to here
Our Divine Adventure as a couple officially began in January 1998, and we started out our married life in San Diego. The Divine Adventure moniker is one we picked years back, based on one of our favorite passages from Scripture:
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence, by which He has granted us His precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature…” -
II Peter 1:3-4a

Section 2: This past season.
Just over six years ago, God brought us back ‘home’ to San Diego. We realized that it was not possible to fund our little business while working as school teachers, and also that ours sons needed assistance in funding their forthcoming college experience. With no intent to leave Honduras, I decided it would be a bright idea to return to San Diego for a 6 month work contract to put away a few bucks. Great idea! I have a US passport, the family knows how to be safe in Honduras without me, it’s only 6 months. Those six months, turned into over six years back here on the left coast.

Section 3: The adventures continues...
During our time here, our family has grown closer to one another, and we’ve learned to depend even more on the Lord Jesus. This season concludes as we become professional bird launchers, emptying our nest.
We are grateful for what God has done, and we are hopeful for what He will continue to do in the lives of our three sons.
2025 features two weddings, two graduations, deployment to the Marine Corps. and redeployment to the mission field.
Section 1:
Ebenezer | God has been faithful to here
In 2014, my Mom passed away, and while my hope was stayed on Christ, the grief season was very real. I struggled to be effective in serving the Lord, and this eventually led us stateside for a time. God provided a job back “home” in San Diego, and we were cared for by new and long-time friends from Pacific Hope Church. While we had been gone from SD for years, our understanding of Scripture and Christ was aligned with this church, and we were so blessed by being part of it. At about the one year mark, some real healing had taken place for me, and Joshua expressed a desire to return to Honduras for his senior year of high school. A sermon from Pastor John encouraged me to consider again the call to ministry. And God saw fit to open a door for Jennifer and I to return to Honduras for a different type of missions. We both took on roles at International School Tegucigalpa where our boys resumed their studies. In parallel, we started a micro-business to create work for some unemployed friends near the Casitas church. This is an important detail, as the Lord has impressed on me the need not only to preach the Gospel, but also to consider some of the temporal needs that bi-vocational pastors and church leaders have. Not all churches have the ability to support their pastor financially.
It was a great season with our entire family at school together, teaching God’s Word, and trying to grow a small business.
Our two eldest boys were born at Scripps La Jolla - I worked in IT professional services, and Jennifer was able to stay home with the boys. We developed deep friendships, and God brought us to a little church called Pacific Hope. We started going there in 2001, and we learned a great deal about evangelism, discipleship, and service to Christ. After several years, a couple of dear friends and I had the opportunity to prayerfully and carefully bring in a new pastor, John Leeder, to join the church as a faithful under-shepherd.
As Pastor John began to lead the congregation through the book of Ephesians, Jennifer and I were moved by God to re-consider a call to ministry in Latin America that had been pressed upon us early on in our relationship. Through an incredible set of experiences, we sold our home in Rancho Bernardo, had our car stolen (not like we planned this!), I resigned from my job at Intuit, and we began preparing to be missionaries in Honduras. Part of that preparation included language school in Costa Rica, and during our time there, God blessed us with Simon. The arrival of our third son resulted in us staying in Costa Rica 🇨🇷 longer than expected and afforded me the opportunity to work on staff in IT at an online seminary.
Our time there concluded with a move, not to Honduras as expected, but rather to Chicago. God provided me with a job offer from Motorola, which allowed us to be near my parents as my dad was concluding successful cancer treatment. Our time in Illinois brought us to a small congregation, where God’s Word was faithfully preached and lived out. (Thanks to my friend Anthony for introducing us to 9Marks church finder way back then). Jennifer and I were greatly enriched and equipped through this church family. Pastor David Sunday and the time spent in his pastoral discipleship group kindled in me an even deeper desire to care for God’s people. We experienced a remarkable church merger, with two congregations honoring the Lord and coming together. In January of 2011, our family had the privilege of being the first missionary family sent by the newly formed New Covenant Bible Church. This time, after a couple year layover in Chicago-land, we actually made it to Honduras!
Through another set of divinely orchestrated situations, my college roommate, whose brother was involved in LATAM based radio evangelism ministry, introduced us to Melvin Zelaya and his wife, Carol. Back then, I had no idea how significantly God would choose to use Melvin in equipping me for future seasons of ministry. One of my biggest lessons as a zealous young man was that I desired to serve Christ and the Honduran church, only to realize that I had nothing whatsoever to bring to the table. My Spanish was lacking, my faith was lacking, my knowledge of Scripture was lacking (and all of these are still true today!). What I observed and learned from Melvin (and continue to observe and learn) is faithful service, selfless care for others, pastoral care, and lifelong study of God’s Word. Seminary on the job: that’s what that season of ministry (2011-2015) in Honduras was all about.
Section 2: This past season.
In 2018, we realized that it was not possible to fund our dried fruit business while working as school teachers overseas. Our intention was to work in the states for 6 months or so, and then return to Honduras. We left all our belongings, business, home, and relationships in suspended animation. However, the Lord in His sovereignty, had plans higher than our own. That “short-term stint” has turned into 7 years!
God allowed me to reconnect with a former colleague from Intuit and the early days of my career and help him grow a software start-up company. I learned a ton about business, leading others, and how important excellence in Christian witness is in the workplace. I had the opportunity to bring other friends along on the employment journey, and NewRocket was one of those once in a lifetime career opportunities. This is ironic, and it is certainly to the glory of God, as I truly have had no career ambitions in this regard.
During our time in San Diego, God has permitted us to travel many times to Honduras to continue to be a part of people’s lives that we care about and serve the churches that we had been a part of. To God alone be the glory! He has also allowed us to share a season of life with beloved friends & family here in the States. In both countries, we see God’s faithfulness in preserving relationships across years and miles, despite our goodbyes not always being as thoughtful as they could have been.
Even though our little business did not survive the pandemic, through the job at NewRocket and some work opportunities Jennifer has had, we were able to contribute to Joshua’s, Samuel’s, and Simon’s education. We are so thankful for the Lord’s provision in being able to pour into our boys for these next chapters in their lives.
This time in San Diego has been full of blessing, but also included some of the darkest trials our family has ever experienced. I have seen God sanctifying me like never before, to the praise of His glory. I can say I’ve been confronted with sin and a call to personal holiness that has been deeper and more effective than earlier seasons of my pursuit of the Savior. Some of you have walked with us through the challenges of this past season. Thank you for your prayer, care, love, and patience with me in learning hard lessons.
One of the biggest challenges and joys of our extended stay back in San Diego was to be able to bring God’s Word to our church family at Pacific Hope. God unexpectedly (unexpected to us) called John Leeder home to glory. It was a time of difficult learning on how to care for souls, lead God’s people alongside other sinful men, and concurrently be diligent with parenting and growing a business. God gave strength, resolve, and an added measure of His Holy Spirit for this season. I learned many lessons the hard way but have no doubt that I will take these lessons into the next seasons of ministry, better equipped to serve Christ and His Church. One of the outcomes of this season, just like back in 2006, was being part of inviting another shepherd to care for Pacific Hope Church.
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us… For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.” - II Cor. 4:7,11
As God graciously cared for our and chastened our whole family in this season, this has been preparation for all that lies ahead for each of us. As a couple, the Lord has allowed us to learn through and be encouraged by the prayerful, long-suffering body of believers at Resolved Church. Some time with the brethren and their care has been restorative as I fall even more in love with Christ’s design for the Church (capital “C”). Churches are flawed and imperfect, but Christ bought His Church. He Himself is its head, and He instructs us to love it.
In the work arena, my job at NewRocket gave way to a new opportunity with AltiaTek , which I started in November 2024. This job is a total unicorn job which combines the knowledge I have gained of a particular software tool and my desire to create jobs in Honduras. I am officially the only tech guy in California (that I know of) that works for a Honduran tech company. And this, my friends, is an answer to prayer - we have asked the Lord for years to be able to be missionaries without the need of raising support.
Section 3: The Adventure Continues…
In the past 7 years, our family has grown even closer and learned to depend on the Lord in new ways. (And our family has grown!) This season concludes as we are now professional bird launchers, close to emptying our nest!
Joshua and his wife Emily are in Honduras with World Gospel Outreach, serving Christ by ministering to local pastors, church workers, and their families. As a couple, they are a living testimony of God’s great, redeeming work. We are so grateful for them and their unique giftings!
Samuel recently graduated from The Masters University, and a week later married his college sweetheart, Elizabeth. God graciously afforded him a job in scenic St. George, Utah, as a Radio Frequency Engineer at a company that manufactures stuff too complex for me to understand. We are super proud of them!
Simon is graduating in June from Calvin Christian School in Escondido. He will be heading to Boot Camp at MCRD in San Diego with the United States Marine Corps! We are very excited with him as this seems like it will be a great fit for how God has wired him.
My role at AltiaTek permits me to do bi-vocational ministry in Honduras and for us as a couple to begin a new season of caring for the church. This truly is an answer to prayer! We will be living temporarily in the industrial capital city of Honduras (San Pedro Sula). While there are a couple missionaries we know and some brothers from seminary class, San Pedro Sula is entirely new to us. Think of moving from San Diego to Sacramento. Similar culture, but a good distance away.
Then we will be back in San Diego in the fall for Boot Camp graduation and some other commitments. In October, we will return to Honduras for Jennifer to be part of the annual women’s event. After that, we plan to settle for the rest of the year in Casitas (outside of Guinope, Honduras) doing rural ministry.
The years we lived in Honduras, we would travel weekly to Casitas from Tegucigalpa, but we have never had daily involvement in the church or community there. Since I can perform my job duties virtually, I can work during the day, and have evenings and weekends to be involved in the church. Jennifer will be running our home and farm and be able to be involved in the community all week long.
Jennifer and I are going to try tiny house living, retrofitting what had been our fruit processing factory as a home. We will have some space to stretch out, and we are working on planting coffee, fruit trees, and other garden foods on the land. The church is literally across the street, and one of the topics that God has put on my heart is to help the local church there to have and hold a high view of marriage. There is a need to bolster this congregation’s understanding of personal holiness in the home. (I believe we all need this!) While in Honduras, I will also be entering into my 2nd year pursuing an MDiv, depeening my understanding of God’s Word through SEPE Seminary.
We share all this with you to the glory of God, who has allowed us to be in San Diego for a season and to be part of your life in some way. We also praise God for the unique ways He has prepared things for a new season of Gospel living in Honduras. Our desire is to embrace you, pray with you, and remind you that Gospel goodbyes, while never easy, are part of this pilgrimage.
